Project Background
They wanted to replace their desktop software that had become less stable as Windows and Microsoft Access versions increased with time, and this was affecting day to day work. On top of usability problems they wanted to add functionality, correct errors, and rework some workflows that had changed in the past 15 years.
What We Did
The app was a web application with the UI running in the browser, and a remote server and database hosted on AWS. The design and code groundwork for the UI and server were inherited from another agency. The application's purpose was to give the business control over business operations and expose product and project data to their customer facing website.
Explaining every piece of their web application would not make for an engaging read, so below is a list of the essential features of the application:
- Create users and assign to them user types with different levels of access to the app
- Admin panel for the back office to manage tax rates, prices, product types and specifications, users and sales representatives, commissions and markups
- Manage projects, create quotes that relied on complex calculations, manage sales debits and credits
- Let their customer facing website fetch product and project data from the portal server
- Let sales reps across the United States access information from the web portal
- Generate reports for oversite over their business
